Fox news reporter argues with Christian woman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxMFhfVGvzk
In this video, the reporter is covering a story about a family who was trying to peacefully bury their homosexual son who died in the military, but anti-gay protesters ruined the peace with their hurtful protests. The Christian lady who the reporter interviewed said that the family "caused themselves the grief" by having a gay son. She says that America is doomed because there are gays and people not following God's words. I think this is crazy, because like the reporter says in the interview, we need to love all God's children or even just everyone around you, whether you believe in a god or not. This woman is not following her own beliefs and is being hypocritical to herself by hating others, thanking God for wars, and thanking God for 911. People who cause others grief and are not open to understanding or realizing that their opinion is wrong, are selfish and hurtful. They are the ones causing their country doom, not the other way around.
Cheat on your girlfriend not on your workout ad
I came across this ad the other day and I found it so ridiculous that Reebok would actually publish this ad. It shows men as workout obsessed animals who don't care about any relationship other than the one with their workout. It is degrading to men and women because it portrays them in uncomfortable manners; that women are worthless and don't matter, and that men are cocky assholes who can't handle an adult relationship. Either way, this ad is surprising and extremely offensive, and is only one of many of the forms of media that portray men and women this way. We are being told not to care about positive relationships and to have casual sex or preform adultery. This type of message is causing problems in our society, especially for young people who are beginning to learn the difference between right and wrong. It is a ridiculous message that should not be advertised.
Genetically assemble your perfect baby
Doing some online research I have learned of a new medical procedure that people will be able to have done in the future: to genetically enhance your child before they are born, to ensure they have no diseases or physical problems and also to alter their physical appearance. I think it is really great that we are discovering new ways to keep our children healthy, but I think it is ridiculous that we are using this technology to further try and beautify our society. One scientist was promoting the fact that the technology could be used to prevent "stupid" babies and "ugly" children. You can choose if you want your child to be smart or athletic. I personally think this is wrong; it's so unnatural and people will start becoming paranoid about comparing their "perfect" children to others'. If this is all we are concerned about for the future of our children then we really need to get our priorities in order and focus on fixing the problem we already having, not creating new problems based around superficiality.

Mental Health and the Media
If you go into any high school, you will see the majority of teens on cell phones and laptops, updating their facebook statuses or tweeting to their friends. But do they know that all this social media could be harmful for their mental health?
Social media can play a large role in affecting one's self esteem, either by online bullying or just feeling excluded by others. Many teens feel that they don't compare to others and end up feeling down. Other forms of media tell us how we should look, act, and feel, and it can really alter one's thinking. Young girls develop eating disorders because the media tells them they should be a size zero. Other teens will get in with the wrong crowd to try to rough up their image, but can end up feeling alone and unwanted. Because teens will then try to transform themselves into someone they're not, only to feel even more unhappy in the end.
Social media is a great new addition to our network of technology. But is it always so great? When the question of mental health in teens arises because of it, we have to ask ourselves: Is it really that beneficial?

Recently, I was stocking shelves in the baby section at the place I work at and I noticed something that almost all the packaging had in common: the mother-baby images were all of white mothers holding white babies. I'm not sure if these diaper and infant formula companies realize it, but African American, Oriental, Middle Eastern, as well as many other races, also happen to have babies. And companies advertising these baby products should realize this and stop discriminating against these races, whether it is accidental or not. This problem is creating the illusion that Caucasians are the superior mothers, which is sometimes the farthest from the truth. I'm not sure if it has to do with the area in which we live, or just the general ignorance of diaper companies, but it should not matter. Equality should be included in every part of the world, especially when dealing with the loving relationship of a mother and child.

Racial Stereotypes
As the media continues portraying certain racial groups in certain ways, we continue to see these stereotypes as normal without giving it a second though. For example, many people tend to relate African Americans to gangs and drugs, and Muslims to terrorism. These perceptions are ridiculous, but as the media continues to feed them to us over and over again, we begin to believe them.
Racial stereotypes occur in all forms of advertising, music, and even children's television. Many advertisements use white models or give subtle hints involving racism. Rap artists give the impression that all African Americans are savages, do illegal things, and hate the police. Children's television shows show the evil witches and bad guys as dark and ugly, and as the princesses and main characters as clean-cut and white. The Native Americans are portrayed as illiterate and scary. What messages are we sending to children about diversity and equality when making these shows and videos?
The media needs to stop associating each race with its typical stereotype and start changing roles as well as giving us more diversity. Maybe then we can stop fearing and judging one another by how we look based on how the media portrays us.

American Dream
The American dream is the idea that anyone can come to North America with nothing and become wealthy and happy. It is also the idea that a person will be wealthier and happier than their parents were. Citizens of developing countries are coming to North America with absolutely nothing in hopes that they can get a good job, settle down comfortably and support their families. But what they are not prepared for are immigration complications, shortages of jobs, and the downplay of their job qualifications.
Many immigrants may come from their home country with an education and medical degree, but will end up working as a janitor or at a fast food restaurant. This is because the qualifications do not apply in Canada, or they need to be reassessed for large amounts of money. They are forced to take any job they can get in order to survive in North America.
The American Dream is very deceiving this way, and it gives false hope to those coming from nothing in North America. It is quite possible that one can follow their dreams and succeed even though they had no money in the beginning, but this is not always the case. The media today has changed the image of the American Dream into a certain and easy way to reach the top, and hides the fact that when they come to North America they can't start their life from where they left off. It also overlooks hard work and dedication, the most important part of the American Dream, and leads us to believe that you can go from poor to wealthy in no time at all.
